The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are a part of the Western Division in Major Leage Baseball's American League. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim or the "Angels" for short are based out of Anaheim California. The "Angels" name originates from the city that was their original home, Los Angeles. The Angels are also referred to as "the Halos" because their logo has often times featured a halo over the years. The Angels home field is Angel Stadium of Anaheim and they have been playing there since 1966.
The Angels were founded in 1961 and originally played at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles. The team was known as just the "Angels" at the time. The team went through several name changes in its existence being changed to the California Angels in 1965 as they were the only major league team in California at the time. The team changed its name again in 1997 after Disney bought the franchise. They were then known as just the "Anaheim Angels" because Disney was hoping to make Anaheim the home of Disneyland and wanted to push the word Anaheim in everything the company owned.
The franchise was later sold to Arte Moreno and in 2005 he changed th name once again to include Los Angeles to better tap into the second largest media market in the company, the city of Los Angeles. The name was then changed to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim however, fans still refer to them as the Angels, which they have stayed throughout the years. The team has won one World Series in 2002 and 8 West Division Titles.
