Frozen Fenway is an annual hockey event at Fenway Park. The event is during the winter months in Boston and the games are played outside at Boston's Fenway Park. Games consist of college hockey teams as well as high school games. The first Frozen Fenway was started in 2010 when Fenway Park hosted the NHL Winter Classic between the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers. Since the ice was set up, Fenway Park teamed up with Hockey East and developed a series of games for both the men's division as well as the women's division of Hockey East.
The first Frozen Fenway in 2010 was 2 games which featured the Boston University Terriers and Boston College Eagles for the men's game and the University of New Hampshire Wildcats and the Northeastern Huskies for the women's game. Both games took place on January 8th and the attendance for both games was 38,472.
The next Frozen Fenway featured both Hockey East teams and ECAC teams. The games featured the University of New Hampshire Wildcats against the Maine Black Bears, the Vermont Catamounts vs the UMass Minutemen, Providence College Friars (women) vs Dartmouth Big Green (women), Babson Beavers vs Norwich Cadets, Harvard Crimson vs Union Dutchmen and Boston College Eagles vs Northeastern Huskies.
Frozen Fenway is quickly becoming one of the top sporting events held in New England. Fans from all over New England (and beyond) have been flocking to Fenway Park to watch great hockey in an outdoor venue. The weather plays a big role in the games, it could be freezing cold, moderately warm, raining, snowing, sunny, cloudy... either way, that's what outdoor hockey is all about.
